Interesting Facts about our Current Collection

Tetris(NES)

Tetris actually has a much more interesting backstory then most people think; the first iteration was born in 1984 to one Alexy Pajitnov, a software engineer at the Soviet Academy of Sciences. It was inspired by a puzzle game called "pentominoes", from which Alexy Pajitnov made changes to suit his vision, which was originally created with no intention of profit. What followed the creation of the game was a complex mess of rights and licensing; at the time of its release on the NES, they were still being intensely fought over.

Mario Bros(NES)

A platform game developed and published by Nintendo in 1983, Mario bros is the first in a very long, very popular series of games involving the Nintendo character, Mario. The game originally began as a spinoff of the title, Donkey Kong, another popular Nintendo character. It was originally published as an arcade title, but afterwards was produced on the Nintendo Entertainment System(NES).

Super Metroid(SNES)

The third installment of the Metroid series, Super Metroid is an action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo. The sequel to Metroid II: Return of Samus, players control popular Nintendo character Samus Aran, with a focus on exploration and interesting innovations in gameplay (at the time) such as an inventory screen, minimap, and the ability to change direction of fire. Super Metroid was published on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1994.

Super Mario Kart(SNES)

Super Mario Kart is a kart racing game, developed and published by Nintendo. The first game in the expansive Mario Kart series, and the 4th best selling SNES title of all time. The game offers the player the choice of 8 different racers with varying capabilities, and also both single and multiplayer modes. The game is considered key for expanding the Mario series into other genres than platforming. Super Mario Kart was published on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1992.
